Whahaha, that's brilliant! Congratulations on reaching 1,600 LOLMacs!

"It's a good gate. Can I keep it? I always wanted to be a gatekeeper. And there are lots of things you can do with gates. Hey, shall we go gatecrash the annual Gate Trimming contest?"

A Case of Mistaken Identity

One stealthy entry into a top secret facility, followed by the deployment of a home cooked anesthetic gas (Mac was grateful that there were gas masks right there in the armory, so he didn't have to cobble one of those together too), and the use of a borrowed crane, a borrowed cargo plane and two borrowed transport trucks, and Mac finally arrived at the Phoenix Foundation offices with the item Pete had requested.

Things did not go as well as Mac had hoped.

"Darn it, Pete! You asked for a gate and I got you one!" Mac exclaimed, running one hand through his shaggy hair, and turning in place so his back was to his irate friend. "I've been up for 36 straight hours now. I'm bushed. I'm going home for a nap."

He strode out, shutting the door to the outer office behind him none to gently.

Pete stared at the door he could barely still pick out with a frustrated frown, and then shaking his head in rueful acceptance of what could not be helped, he picked up the phone and began to dial.

"Hello, George?... Yes, about that... I have your missing gate... My fault, I'm afraid. My instructions to MacGyver were not clear enough. I wanted a gate, and he thought I wanted THAT gate. Anyway, it's here, and yours for the taking."

Fifteen minutes later, after the President had been briefed, arrangements made and orders issued, George Hammond finally leaned back in his comfortable leather chair, sighed, and closed his eyes, only to spring forward in his chair, pick up his phone, and start dialing.

"Detention? Is this Sgt. Wong?.... Well, this is General Hammond, and you may release Col. O'Neill immediately. It seems he didn't steal the gate after all. ... Yes, son. I'm well aware of what the security footage shows, but appearances can be deceiving. ... Well, you just let him out of there, and tell him to come down here and see me. I'll explain it all to him. ... And son? Don't take any guff from him. You're just doin' your job and followin' my orders."

That had been a close one. The idea of what Jack would have been like if he had been forgotten and left to pace that small cell until morning didn't bear thinking about. There were very few things in life that frightened George Hammond, but that!.

Hammond shuddered. Almost as terrifying as the idea that somewhere in California there was a man who could not only double for his second, but who seemed to be equally capable and as much a force to be reckoned with.

He felt a headache coming on.

The door opened with a bang.

"General! Mind telling me why I just spent 14 HOURS in lock up?!!!"

If he ever got around to writing that autobiography that no one would ever be authorized to read (in this century at least) he was going to have to leave this episode out. It simply strained credulity. In this job, some days were like that.
