Daniel was late to the 'Gate Room again, citing a need to locate a reference that Balinsky had borrowed but forgot to return. Jack couldn't resist--not that he tried--nagging Daniel about his tardiness versus Jack's timeliness, leaving the exasperated archaeologist to roll his eyes and sigh all the way through the wormhole.
The inhabitants of P23-G56 were of Germanic descent, and Daniel was ecstatic to to see many of their traditions had been preserved without being altered by Christian influence, as their counterparts on Earth had been. SG-1 arrived on the sixth day of the twelve-day Yule celebration, and were greeted warmly and effusively by the locals.
Jack, of course, took in the decorated greenery and declared it was Christmas.
Carter and Teal'c split off to check out soil samples under the guidance of the village huntsmen, which left Jack with the exciting task of watching Daniel babble on with the chief about their history and culture.
The first time it happened, Jack tried to pretend it didn't, and steadfastly ignored the feminine giggling coming from behind him. The second time it happened, he wasn't able to contain his startled yelp, causing Daniel and the chief to glance up at him. The chief smiled knowingly, and jabbered something.
The anthropologist was grinning. "Ah, well, a more-detailed explanation will have to wait, but suffice to say, Jack, 'goosing' is a common tradition during the holiday."
"What? Oh, great, and I guess this makes me the Christmas Goose?"
Daniel rolled his shoulders. "Well, you're the one who bragged about 'always being ready in a pinch'."
